Active Life

The primary goal of physiotherapy in palliative care is to achieve the best possible Quality of Life for both the patient and their families.Other common goals of physiotherapy in the treatment of a cancer patient in palliative care are:

  1. Minimise symptoms
  2. Optimise functioning ability
  3. Maintain or regain physical independence
  4. Preserve the patients autonomy

As stated previously goals and treatment are highly dependent on the stage of the disease. For example: the focus and goal of ‘traditional’ cancer rehabilitation are different to those of a terminally ill patient where there is a focus on maintaining a balance between optimal functioning levels and comfort.
